Sheila Carlin worked for Aer Lingus from 1963 to 1967, soon after their flights to America began she reveals what it was like to have one of the most glamorous jobs at the time
An Irish woman has spoken about her "dream job" working as an air hostess on some of Aer Lingus' earliest transatlantic flights, a job much revered and envied at that time.
"They took money from your pay - five shillings a week for the first three months to pay for your uniform. For the next 15 months, they took seven and six then after 18 months you got the money back." "The Atlantic flights were amazing; I loved it. You worked very hard. There were seven girls on each flight and everyone had a job to do. Some worked in the back preparing food to be served, the rest worked out in the cabin.
During her years working on the transatlantic routes, Sheila was lucky enough to meet many famous people including Elizabeth Taylor.
