Dublin mum slams HSE for making family 'prisoners in our own home'

A mum whose six-year-old daughter needs round-the-clock care for a rare illness has slammed the HSE for making her family “prisoners in our own home”.

But Lynn, who is also mum to 10-year-old Ellie, says it has made life a misery for her family and has pushed her to “breaking point”. Daisy’s golden retriever care dog Lady had to be put to sleep last November after a cancer op – and Lynn is convinced her recovery was hampered by the fact she could not walk her.

“Yet it’s not OK to leave a fully-trained paediatric nurse alone with her. It doesn’t make any sense. Her complex needs include treatment for epilepsy, cerebral palsy, autism and anxiety and Lynn administers 27 medications at 10 set times each day. “You end up shadowing the nurse, or you’re preparing her meds, or ordering medical supplies. It’s never ending.”
