Steve Wall, who has had a diverse career as a singer-songwriter, actor and founder of multi-platinum Irish bands The Stunning and The Walls, took to social media to vent about at his recent experience. The rock star claimed he was charged a €75 fare for his journey home - which he described as “mental,” more than double what he expected and, remarkably, even cost more than his flight. He asked his almost 11,000 followers on X, formerly Twitter: 'What’s going on with taxi prices? Just got charged €75 to the airport from Harold’s Cross which never cost more than €35 approx. It cost more than my flight…mental! I booked it via FreeNow. No air coach service nearby.' Harold’s Cross, located in the southern suburbs of Dublin, is about 13 kilometers from Dublin Airport. Wall confirmed in responses to his followers that the driver did not take the Port Tunnel or the M50, routes that typically incur toll charges. Instead, the journey went “straight through town,” a route that can be slower due to traffic congestion, but potentially cheaper. According to Google Maps, while the city-centre route is the shortest in terms of distance, it can be unpredictable in terms of time. Traffic delays are common, particularly during peak hours, which might partially explain the fare.
