The One-Parent Family Payment (OFP) in Ireland is receiving a substantial increase, providing financial relief to eligible families. Learn more about the updated scheme, eligibility criteria, and the impact on recipients.
Social welfare recipients in Ireland can benefit from a significant financial boost with updates to the One-Parent Family Payment ( OFP ) scheme. The OFP , designed to support individuals under 66 raising children without a partner's support, will see an increase of €12 per week from January 2025. This translates to an annual increase of €624, providing substantial relief to eligible families.
The government has also announced increases for those receiving the Child Support Payment, which complements the OFP. To qualify for the OFP, applicants must not be living with a spouse, civil partner, or cohabiting partner. Separated, divorced, or those with dissolved civil partnerships must meet specific criteria, including circumstances where a spouse or civil partner is incarcerated. The maximum weekly personal rate for the OFP is €244, with additional payments for dependent children. Children under 12 years old will receive an extra €50 per week, while children aged 12 years and older will receive an added €62. Furthermore, the Child Support Payment, previously known as the Increase for a Qualified Child (IQC), will continue to be paid for any other children in the family until they reach 18 (or 22 if in full-time education) as long as the youngest child remains under the age limit. It's important to note that the One-Parent Family Payment is a taxable income source.
