Lucinda Kingham is back pplaying rugby after a year out
Irish rugby 7’s player Lucinda Kingham has shared her struggles on overcoming injury and the affects it can have on your mental health.
Speaking with RSVP Live, the 22-year-old shared her experience of balancing college and rugby after receiving a place on the Irish rugby 7’s team. With Lucinda’s busy schedule of being a sporting star and a full-time student, she found it difficult to find balance between college, socialising, and rugby.
“I got injured last February, I had a stress fracture in my leg and this is probably the toughest thing I will ever have to go through in my life and I know people will say that is dramatic but it was very challenging to go from training and having such routine in your day to absolutely nothing and then COVID happened on top of that and it was just a real rough, dark period.”
Lucinda has returned to the pitch for the first time in a year, winning an All-Ireland final with DCU this week. In these situations, you also have to look at the rest of your body like my mental health took a real turn throughout last year and having that injury made me realise the importance of physical exercise in my life.”
