To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Ireland's first international men's rugby match, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) is giving away free replica kits to all babies born in Ireland on February 15th, 2025. Parents can claim the gift by submitting a copy of their baby's birth certificate.
All babies born in Ireland on February 15th this year are in line to collect a special gift from the Irish Rugby Football Union. To mark the 150th anniversary of Ireland’s first-ever international men’s rugby match on February 15th, 1875, they are offering all babies born in Ireland on February 15th, 2025 their very first Irish Rugby replica kit.

Once received, the IRFU will send out the exclusive kit. The IRFU said February 15th will be a great day of celebration for rugby fans, and to honour that, they are welcoming the next generation of rugby supporters with the mini jerseys. IRFU President Declan Madden shared his enthusiasm: “The Irish Rugby jersey is an iconic symbol of national pride and passion." "As families across Ireland celebrate the birth of their children on February 15th, we’re thrilled to be able to share this moment with them by welcoming the next generation of rugby fans with open arms—and with their very first kit.” Paul Dean, Chair of the IRFU 150 Working Group, added: “This initiative is a celebration of both the rich history of Irish rugby and the exciting future ahead." "We’re proud to offer these gifts to families and to be part of their joyful moments as we mark 150 years of Irish rugby.” Ireland's interim head coach Simon Easterby has announced his team for Sunday’s Six Nations clash against Scotland. Robbie Henshaw and Peter O’Mahony earn starts, and Caelan Doris will lead Ireland once again from the back row. Cian Healy set to become Ireland’s most capped player in the Guinness Men’s Six Nations if he comes off the bench for his 66th Championship appearance, surpassing Brian O’Driscoll who has 65. Hugo Keenan, Mack Hansen and James Lowe start in an unchanged Ireland back three, with Bundee Aki and Robbie Henshaw forming the midfield partnership, while Jamison Gibson-Park and Sam Prendergast continue in the half-backs. Andrew Porter, Rónan Kelleher and Finlay Bealham fill out the front row, with James Ryan and Tadhg Beirne in the engine room. Josh van der Flier is at openside, and there is an experienced bench line-up with Dan Sheehan, Healy, Thomas Clarkson, Ryan Baird, Jack Conan, Conor Murray, Jack Crowley and Garry Ringrose completing Ireland’s Match Day Squad. Simon Easterby said: “Sunday’s game presents a significant challenge against a Scotland side that had a very good Autumn Nations Series and have started the Six Nations with a positive bonus point win over Italy. We have taken confidence from the win over England this week and there are undoubtedly areas for improvement. “Selection was a real challenge again which reinforces the competition for places. As we approach Round 2, it’s about improvement and building momentum. We know that we will need to start the game strongly and meet their physical challenge.”
