Irish shelters 'at breaking point' as number of unwanted dogs soars to unprecedented levels
Animal rescue charities face bills of more than €140,000 as the numbers of unwanted dogs soar to unprecedented levels – prompting pleas of “adopt, don’t shop”.
Gina Hetherington of PAWS told the Irish Mirror: “So many shelters are at breaking point, they just can’t take any more.“Shelters are struggling with unprecedented volumes and have stopped taking in more dogs.” “We have 73 dogs, including 41 greyhounds and 26 lurchers. Our veterinary bill this year will be €141,000.”
