Both the Government and Defence Forces were made aware of his passing and worked to contact his family members to inform them of the tragic news.Details of the incident itself and how the accident occurred remained unclear on Sunday night.He told the Irish Mirror: "It's a very tragic day and all of our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
"He was a very accomplished soldier and a staunch supporter of PDFORRA. So it's very sad news for all our members." In a statement from the Defence Forces, a spokesman confirmed: "The Defence Forces can confirm that a serving member has died in a parachuting accident in Spain. He was off duty at the time.
