Olivia Humphreys, a 24-year-old product design and technology graduate from Limerick, Ireland, has won the prestigious James Dyson Award with her invention, Athena. Inspired by her mother's health issues, Athena is a portable scalp cooling device designed to minimize hair loss during chemotherapy treatment.
Product design and technology graduate Olivia Humphreys was inspired by her mum’s health issues to invent the scalp cooling Athena device for cancer sufferers.
One of the main benefits is patients can spend less time in their hospital on a chemotherapy infusion day. Now she has been offered a research and development engineer internship by a medical company based in Galway to take her product development to the next level.
