The Limerick couple were left shattered when their son Robert died on May 8, 2015 after suffering from a seizure
An Irish woman who completed the Camino de Santiago after the sudden death of her son has penned a moving book of her 1,000km journey in his memory.
Describing life after his death as a 'blur,' Lucy, a social care worker, felt that she was “walking around with a gaping wound” and feared that her marriage would not survive the loss of a child. My Camino Through Grief is the moving journal of their experiences traveling from the Pyrenees in southern France through the valleys of Navarra and westward through Spain to the final stop at the infamous cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
Lucy also details how Robert began to suffer from seizures from the age of 10 but he refused to be defined or limited by his illness. Sharing how the married couple, who celebrated their 29th anniversary on the Camino, were brought back closer together, she writes: “Gerard shared with me that our journey has made him reflect on us as a couple. He said that he feels we have found each other again.
