Anne O'Byrne pushed back her wedding to go to the World Cup in 1994.
Thirty years on from whirlwind Summer, Anne O’Byrne recalls the electric atmosphere and scorching climate following the Republic of Ireland team in New Jersey and Florida.
"We were like okay, we'll get married the night before, then they start qualifying, and I could see Michael was itching!"READ MORE: Bohemians youngster signs first pro contract, tipped to become fan favourite The RTÉ Archive recently released footage from 1994 of the couple at Dublin Airport getting ready to head stateside for the tournament. The Byrne's daughter, Ariane, saw this and posted the footage on TikTok, which has since garnered many views.
Anne remembers the blistering heat in Giants Stadium on the day that Ireland played Italy. "It was so hot, and we were actually sitting in the middle with the Italian supporters. And Michael bought a bodhran, and he was banging the bodhran. And this man in front was like, "Would you stop?" And Michael was like, this is after costing me 1650, I'm banging it!"
