Man with amputated legs living in Dublin hospitals for two years as he waits for new home
A wheelchair bound man who had both of his lower legs amputated has been living in Dublin hospitals for the past two years as he waits for a new home.
A fall outside his former home in Clondalkin led to a broken kneecap on his right leg with complications including another foot ulcer leading to the second amputation. “I was sent to St Luke’s in Rathgar in January 2018 for rest and recuperation and for going back and forth to Dun Laoghaire for my prosthesis.
His deteriorating health was taken into consideration and the sentence was upheld following an appeal by the DPP.“It was just before I lost my first leg. I scalded my foot in 2009 with the heat of the fire, one of the blisters turned into an ulcer and we fought to save my toe for months and month – it was eventually amputated.
Using his electric wheelchair, he often goes back and forth between the hospital and the Square shopping centre and would be a familiar face to locals.
