Young Dublin woman reveals how she cries herself to sleep at night due to fear of becoming homeless

A vulnerable young woman told how she’s in a “dark hole” crying herself to sleep, panicked she’ll end up back on the streets.

Jasmine, who was in State care until she was 18, told the Irish Mirror: “I can’t sleep at night worrying about ending up on the streets.Being abandoned left troubled Jasmine in a dark place she added: “I now suffer badly with my mental health, it was a very dark time, even now it feels like I’m in a dark hole, I just have no stability.”

The Dublin native’s mum was evicted from her flat in Ballymun when she was 11, and with nowhere to go, Jasmine and her two brothers moved to her dad’s two-bed apartment. She said: “I’ve been tossed around like a boomerang in every foster home that didn’t work out, I dream of a forever home.” Commenting on her troubled time as a child moving around eight times she added: “When I was put into residential care I got put in with kids with so many problems, I seen staff getting assaulted, young people taking drugs and self harming.

“I remember when I was in care the guardian told me I was going to have a great future but when I hit 18 it was like, ‘F**k you, get out on the streets’.”
