And now, at today’s thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s cathedral, she matched her elegant sherbet Emilila Wickstead coat dress with a familiar looking hat. By the milliner Philip Treacy, it curves up at the brim with an explosive bouquet of flowers on one side.This striking hat is a dead ringer for the one she wore to 2019’s Trooping The Colour . Or, perhaps more significantly, it’s its appearance of another doppelgänger hat at an event the previous year which is ringing bells more loudly.
It was at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding that Kate also wore the hat, on that occasion with a tailored Alexander McQueen coat dress . As such it evokes a happier time in the family - pre feud, pre-Megxit, pre-Oprah - when the Cambridges and Sussexes were apparently united and the ‘fab four’ heralded as the future of the monarchy. It calls back to the moment when Meghan officially joined the family and entered the firm.
