Barry Trotz’s trust in Oliver Wahlstrom comes down to what the Islanders wing has done lately on the ice.
“He’s gotta sorta rebuild that [trust] again,” Trotz said earlier in the day of the 21-year-old. “Give me the first shift and if the first shift’s good, then the second shift. We’ll just go shift by shift.” “There’s times when you have to understand that the systematic play has to trump your instincts,” Trotz said. “And Wally’s an instinctive player. When they get out of bounds, then you really are just playing s–tty. Just getting a better balance for him all the time from every part of his game. The forecheck game, neutral zone, the defensive zone and then just a little bit of poise sometimes when things get a little chaotic.
