Satin flag with emblem, the presidential seal.Thirty women, excluding monarchs, currently serve as heads of state and heads of government in 28 countries, according to researchers with the United Nations Women’s division.Savvy, driven, talented and skilled American women increasingly are asking, “Why not America?”

Women’s issues are front and center these days. And influential women in high places are clearly visible. One case in point:magazine’s September 2022 Power of Women special issue and a related celebration that honored standout women who are making an impact in entertainment and public service. Honorees on the magazine cover and inside included female powerhouses Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Ava DuVernay, Malala Yousafzai, and Elizabeth Olsen.

Dallas native the Rev. Dr. Yvette Blair-Lavallais is a bold female faith leader, journalist, author, speaker and former congressional appointee as a public relations specialist at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. She takes female leadership very seriously and has spoken about overcoming her share of patriarchal roadblocks on her journey in her various careers.

She acknowledged that the familiar maxim, “Women hold up half the sky,” is now frowned upon since President Joe Biden got heat for quoting the words either without realizing or acknowledging that they originated from Chinese Communist Party chair Mao Zedong during his 1949 Cultural Revolution waged to help women enter the workforce.

Wikipedia names Khertek Anchimaa-Toka as the first recognized non-royal female president/head of state in 1940 in the then soon-to-be Soviet territory of Tannu Tuva.
