“I like helping people out. I like getting in stressful situations where I have to rely on my instincts. So I just wanted to pursue both career paths and see which one would be the most appropriate for me,” said Maeland. Multiple members of Cpl. Sara Liesch’s family have served in the forces over generations, but she was the first woman to do so. She joined the reserves in 2018 after finishing high school, and currently studies kinesiology at the University of Regina.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in uniform and my time in service. So I decided, ‘You know what? I’ve done this for 17 and a half years, I can say fairly confidently that I do love this job,’ and so rather than doing it part time I decided to just go for the reg force,” said Hammer. Cpl.
