The summer holidays are still upon us, and families everywhere are scouring the web to discover the perfect place to spend time with their little ones, make memories that will last a lifetime, and enjoy a wholesome day out. What better place to visit than a unique attraction that offers access for the full year for the price of one ticket.
People travel from far and wide to volunteer at the village, so much so that it provides housing at an affordable rate for volunteers to stay when they come to work. The building was erected with the money that a keen visitor left in their will for the tramway museum, a testament to just how special this place is to its community.
Crich Tramway Village has a large number of happy volunteers working with them, and they are always looking for more to join the ranks. There's a large variety of roles available, and they each give the chance to exercise different skills. Neil said: “There are 120 people in the traffic department, so drivers, conductors, inspectors, they're all volunteers. We have a couple of dozen people who volunteer here in the workshop for instance.
Crich Tramway Village has a real mix of people from different walks of life volunteering for them, and according to Neil, that is one of the best things about working there, he said: “I often joke that you could put together a fantastic business from the volunteers here. We’ve got people who were finance directors in a previous life, I was manager in an engineering business, we’ve got people who drive trams for a living in places like Nottingham or Manchester.
Not only does the site ensure that it's bursting with fun things to do for the whole family, it hosts a plethora of exciting events from musical festivities to period stagings. Neil revealed: “One of our most popular events is our World War Two event. We stage it as if it was World War Two but on the home front.
