EVERYDAY BRITS are unaware of the nutritious and flavourful ingredients that make up some of our favourite Caribbean dishes, a survey has found.

In the UK, the Caribbean islands are widely known for their succulent meat dishes such as jerk chicken, oxtail stew and curry goat but plant-based ingredients also boast some of the most vibrant flavours. Award-winning Jamaican chef Collin Brown, who has been on hand helping Turtle Bay re-create their new menu, said:The new dishes we have added to Turtle Bay’s menu are full of flavour and packed full of nutrients. We are very excited to introduce some key Caribbean ingredients to the British public.

The award-winning chef said the new menu includes chickpeas, sweet fried plantain, tomatoes and fire-grilled roti. “The combination of these vitamins and minerals , make callaloo real superfood. It can improve overall health with its anti-inflammatory properties, reduce allergy symptoms and help lower cholesterol. Its high iron content means it’s good for women during their monthly cycle.
