Edwardian building in Dublin’s Liberties, at centre of legal dispute and vacant for 30 years, to have ‘essential stabilisation works’ undertaken

By the 1980s the building had become very rundown and eventually closed in the 1990s. In 1996, the council announced it was seeking a private developer to regenerate the market. The following year Temple bar hotelier Keane secured the tender, with an agreement that the title of the market would transfer to him once the redevelopment was completed.

The council said it was still involved in a number of legal proceedings in relation to the Iveagh Markets and could not comment further. Mr Keane did not respond to queries.
