Manchester City forward Jack Grealish has come in for some criticism from fans when compared to Jeremy Doku.
Even the happiest man in the world will find something to moan about every now and then and Manchester City fans are no different.
It was a big overreaction to City's stop-start first half of the season when everyone was playing below par but the complaints soon faded away when Ederson made several crucial saves on the way to the treble. Let alone his proactiveness off the line and confidence on the ball are intrinsic to how the Blues play.
Pep Guardiola doesn't want his side going too intense too early in what is going to be an even more gruelling campaign. It's typically not until the new year when he wants his side to go up a gear. They've already won six league games in a row, they didn't win four on the spin until February last season.
Grealish is skilful and effective in the final third but he isn't as visceral or as thrilling to witness. He's the slow-burn Hateful Eight compared to the all-action Pulp Fiction. But even more costly was Doku's complete lack of work in the opposite direction. Maybe he was under instruction in which case the blame is lessened but Nathan Ake was given an absolutely torrid time all afternoon and received no support.
The shiny new toy is always more fun to play with but Doku's exciting arrival shouldn't mean that Grealish's qualities are glossed over. The latter was integral to the treble triumph and still offers plenty of qualities that Doku doesn't just yet.
