A man who strangled and beat his former partner has been sent to jail
. Nottinghamshire Police said Wesley Cain, described as an "abusive bully" also threatened to kill the woman during a six-month campaign of intimidation.
The 33-year-old, who also goes by the name of Wesley Blade, punched her in the head on multiple occasions before strangling her until she was unconscious in an attack on May 25 last year. On September 4, Cain and the victim were in a car when he assaulted her by grabbing her in a headlock. Cain’s intimidating behaviour continued later in September when he sent messages to the woman threatening to kill her. While under arrest for the offences on 18 September, Cain damaged a glass window at the Queen’s Medical Centre after reacting violently to police seizing a Kindle he was using to make further threats towards the victim.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “This was an appalling and prolonged display of violence and intimidation from a controlling and abusive bully. I’d like to commend this victim for her bravery throughout the ordeal Cain subjected her to. "He pleaded guilty to these offences at the last possible moment - subjecting her to an even longer period of anxiety. I hope it brings her some comfort that he is now behind bars for a considerable period of time."
