Scottish actor James McAvoy shared on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast that he was offered a significant sum of money to play Tom Riddle in the first Harry Potter film. However, his agent advised him against accepting due to the long-term commitment it would entail.
Scottish actor James McAvoy has revealed he was offered "a ton of money" to star in Harry Potter as a young actor.
On the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast, McAvoy shared: "The very first movie, I think it was - who is the - is it Tom Riddle in the first one, yeah? But he's like in it... for like a scene in a flashback or something like that? And they had - I simply remember it was right in the beginning of my career.
The 'Speak No Evil' actor described the offer as a "really strange thing" and a significant amount for someone new to the industry. He continued: "For me, at that time, it was a ton of money, it was like £40,000 or something like that, and I'd done very little work." But taking the retainer would have meant James "wouldn't be able to do any work for about seven months", leading his agent Ruth Young to advise him against it.
