12:09:36An English man who shares the telescope's name has travelled thousands of miles to French Guiana to be there for his namesake's launch.
Lift-off is planned for as close to 12.20pm UK time as possible - although there is a 30-minute window until 12.52pm.JWST is being partnered by the European and Canadian space agencies as well as NASA.10:54:38NASA's associate administrator and head of scienceThomas Zurbuchen has tweeted to say all systems are go just over three hours before the launch.The ESA has tweeted to confirm fuelling is complete and weather conditions have been given the green light.
This year alone, the date has been postponed three times due to communication issues and an extra round of checks. While Hubble operated mainly at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths, Webb will be able to see the cosmos in the infrared spectrum, peering through clouds of gas and dust where stars are being born.
