The committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot has asked House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy to cooperate voluntarily with their probe, seeking information about his conversations with former President Donald Trump before, during and after the attack

Mr. Thompson said the committee wants to question Mr. McCarthy about communications he may have had with Mr. Trump, the former president’s legal team, White House staff and others immediately after the attack on the Capitol and in the week afterward.In an address to the nation on the anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, President Biden accused former President Donald Trump of spreading a “web of lies” about the 2020 election.
