Jason Day is representing the International Team at the Presidents Cup this week but has admitted he never used to care about the event before his views changed
Jason Day has opened up about his initial indifference towards the Presidents Cup, confessing that in his early career, he "never really cared" about the event.
Day acknowledged that the individualistic nature of golf initially made him overlook the significance of the team competition. He shared his thoughts before the tournament, saying: "I think it's having an appreciation for being able to go out and play." "I never really cared too much to play in the Presidents Cup because all I cared about was playing on the PGA Tour and trying to win. Obviously, the Olympics kind of opened my eyes a little bit to know that it's a little bit more than yourself. To be a part of the Presidents Cup team... look, if I play one match, I'm going to do the best I can.
The seasoned golfer, 36, is making his fifth appearance at the prestigious event, although he hasn't participated since 2019, missing out on the last two occasions. Day reminisced about his first time at the Presidents Cup in 2011, a memorable experience playing before a home crowd in Australia. Despite never having won the Cup, he's eager to make his comeback after a seven-year hiatus.
