'I don’t think you can get a pre-season, a League, provincial championships and an All-Ireland series into six months and not expect fellas to be breaking down and to be able to get through all that and then play club for whatever length of time.'

Jason Foley's injury reflects the “madness” of the split season, says Tomás Ó Sé, as Kerry sweat over the fitness of the key defender.

“When people always mention key players in Kerry, they will always mention the Cliffords, the Seanies and Diarmuid O’Connors, but he is the guy who puts out the fires at the back and he is vital to them,” said Ó Sé. Ó Sé continued: “I don’t want to be harping on about it, I don’t think you can get a pre-season, a League, provincial championships and an All-Ireland series into six months and not expect fellas to be breaking down and to be able to get through all that and then play club for whatever length of time.

“They are not talking that he is going to be out for the full season or anything like that, and you can bet your bottom dollar that Jack has already in his head a plan as to how he is going to deal with it until he gets him back.”
