JD Sports staff are airing their fury, saying ‘multiple people went on job search sites during the online town hall meeting where it was announced that working from home would be cancelled’

Staff at the JD Sports headquarters say they have been left furious following an announcement of a full return to office working.

The retailer says it introduced a hybrid working policy for office-based staff as a 'temporary' measure in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sources close to the company say that there are plans to amend the hybrid working policy over the coming months for non-store staff to be in the office at least four days a week, in a bid to ensure a 'fair and consistent approach across global offices and stores' as the majority of JD staff are based on shop floors.

“Some employees from different departments were mostly remote due to how far they live and now they are being forced to come in with no exceptions. People joined from outside of Manchester on the promise that they would be able to work remotely and hybrid working was promised contractually. Staff are also complaining that the Bury head office is ‘simply not designed for full time work’. “The heating doesn’t work half the time and it’s absolutely roasting during winters,” said another worker.
