The Margate Fire Department hosed down the Jersey Shore attraction to check for leaks in the newly renovated $2 million exterior.

A few minor leaks were detected, but at first look, officials tentatively determined that they weren’t substantial enough to push Lucy’s grand unveiling date back from Dec. 14 or 15, according to Richard Helfant, the executive director of the Save Lucy Committee

For 14-months, the National Historic Landmark has been hidden behind plastic wrapped scaffolding, as contractors worked to repair her 140-year old skin that was damaged by seaside conditions. The water test held on Monday revealed that Lucy’s new metal exterior was watertight, but her new windows and skylight had some leaks from the elephant-size shower.

“It just needs to be sealed and then the question will be whether we bring the fire department back for another test or not,” said Helfant.
