'2024 was on the line today. Armagh grasped that nettle and they’re in the final. We played them three times this year, we didn’t lose and good luck to them, and good luck to Galway as well. I think it will be a really good final'
Jim McGuinness claimed that Donegal blew a great opportunity to make their first All-Ireland final in a decade by losing their semi-final to Galway.

I don't really want to go there, it is what it is. These games can be decided by one or two moments. We'll take it on the chin.
Asked if this was a serious chance blown to win the Sam Maguire, especially with Dublin and Kerry out of the equation, McGuinness replied: “Definitely. People talk about year one – there's no such thing. It’s this year. "2024 was on the line today. Armagh grasped that nettle and they’re in the final. We played them three times this year, we didn’t lose and good luck to them, and good luck to Galway as well. I think it will be a really good final. So that’s it. You just have to take it on the chin and move on."
McGuinness said that Donegal will have to reflect on why the team ran out of steam in the closing stages. "It’s a huge day and there’s a lot of emotion attached to the day, the stadium is nearly full and there’s 30,000 or 40,000 Donegal people," he commented.
