“I suppose the silver lining of that whole thing was I didn’t do anything outrageous and try a reverse scoop and get bowled or anything like that. You stick to your strengths and try to make good decisions. Whatever happens after that is in the lap of the gods to an extent. Did that victory help ease the pain of 2019? “No,” Neesham says. “Walking off after beating England in a semi-final you’re certainly not thinking ‘oh that makes up for two years ago’ or anything like that. We had our sights firmly set on that final [against Australia] and a few things didn’t go our way, the toss being one of them.”
“We’ve had this group together pretty much since the 2008 and 2010 under-19 World Cups. Those two age groups have basically been together their entire careers now. We’re coming up to that 32 to 34 age range so we’ve played a hell of a lot of cricket together.
