Speaking in the film, Dame Joan, 88, explained what happened on their first date, stating: ‘In those days, my mother would have said I was taken advantage of. Now, we call it date rape.’However, before their separation, Dame Joan recollected how her husband allegedly tried to encourage her to have sex with an elderly man for money.‘We were in Les Ambassadeurs, a terribly chic nightclub in Mayfair.
‘I beg your pardon? Are you seriously suggesting that I go to bed with that disgusting old man for money?’ she continued, with her partner reportedly replying: ‘“One night baby, that’s all.”’Telling him: ‘Never in a million years,’ she returned home to her mother.
