Mr Shatter, who is a strong supporter of Israel, says he believes the Irish government – as well as main opposition party Sinn Féin – have been unfair to the Jewish State since the Hamas October 7 attack that killed more than 1,200 people
A former Fine Gael minister has urged President Joe Biden to confront Taoiseach Leo Varadkar face to face – for “unbalanced” criticism of Israel.
Israel immediately launched a crushing onslaught against Gaza, where Hamas is based, following the attack – in a campaign that has seen at least 30,000 deaths. He said: “The event that annually attracts the most global attention is the White House engagement of the Taoiseach, Ireland’s Prime Minister, currently Leo Varadkar.
“President Biden and members of Congress, including the Friends of Ireland caucus, should confront both the Irish government and the leaders of Sinn Fein, also visiting Washington, on their obsessive unbalanced criticism of Israel since the Hamas conducted pogrom of 7th October. “
