President Joe Biden told Americans "we must stand together" after Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
"We can not, we must not go down this road in America that we travelled before throughout history. Violence has never been the answer." The President also confirmed he has personally spoken to Trump and expressed genuine concern, "sincerely grateful" for his recovery from minor injuries. Reflecting on their communication, Biden shared that it was a "short but good conversation" and mentioned he and Jill are keeping Trump and his loved ones in their thoughts.
Finally, President Biden confirmed receiving a full briefing on the situation in the White House Situation Room earlier that day, involving senior advisers and Vice President Kamala Harris. With the Republican National Convention on the horizon and Trump's attendance announced, Biden has requested the Secret Service Director to thoroughly review security measures.
