“Well, I don’t know, I mean I suppose you could say that,” he said. “For me I think sooner or later you've got to move on. A heated half-time debate during last year’s drawn All-Ireland football final involving Brolly, Ciaran Whelan and Pat Spillane was not well received, particularly for Brolly and Whelan’s contributions, but he claimed that McBennett pulled him up for an exchange with Spillane before the throw-in.

“But when the new head of sport came in, it was quite obvious that this was going to be a micro-managed regime. Control was the key thing.”
