Former GAA pundit Joe Brolly has moved from the commentary box to the coaching field, accepting a role with Mayo club Knockmore. Brolly, known for his outspoken criticism, joins a strong management team aiming to bring home more titles.

Joe Brolly is taking on a coaching role with top Mayo club Knockmore , answering the frequent call from his detractors to 'get involved.' Brolly, known for his outspoken criticism of past managerial appointments in Derry, joins the club as a 'head coach/selector' under Ray Dempsey , a 1996 All-Ireland finalist.

Dempsey, who guided Knockmore to consecutive championships in 2020/21, previously had a brief stint with Limerick before handing over the reins to Aidan Kilcoyne and John Brogan for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Brolly, a local resident, is part of a 15-strong management team for this year's beaten Mayo finalists. Notably, this comes after Brolly's humorous jab at Kevin McStay's Mayo backroom team following McStay's appointment as county manager, where he questioned the lack of a 'gynaecologist' on the 12-person team.Knockmore's ambition is evident in their appointment of another prominent figure, Sligo's Dessie Sloyan, as a coach/selector. The impressive 16-strong management team also includes a selector, a 'movement coach,' two strength and conditioning coaches, an 'activation coach/rehab support,' two logistics personnel, three stats and analysis experts, a psychologist, a nutritionist, and an injury prevention specialist. Last year, Knockmore fell short in the Mayo final, losing to Ballina by a score of 1-12 to 0-8. Currently holding the third spot on the Mayo roll of honor with 10 senior titles, they strive to close the gap on Ballina (38 titles) and Castlebar (31 titles). Brolly, in a previous podcast appearance, commended Knockmore's unwavering dedication to their parish, noting their success with two senior championships in four years despite numerous injuries and a reliance on young players. He also praised their longstanding tradition of avoiding outside managers and operating without financial compensation
