We chat with CriminalMinds star JoeMantegna about what fans can expect from CriminalMindsEvolution and the darker side of David Rossi:

After just two years off the air, Paramount+'s Criminal Minds: Evolution brings the hit procedural back to television. The original Criminal Minds ran for a total of 15 seasons before coming to a close in 2020. However, increased popularity surrounding the series has led Paramount+ to revive the show, this time for a 10-episode season that follows the Behavioral Analysis Unite tracking one dangerous UnSub.

Screen Rant recently had the opportunity to speak to Mantegna about Criminal Minds: Evolution, exploring how it felt to return to Rossi, what the move to streaming has meant for the series, and what fans should expect from this revival. There’s a lot of Joe Mantegna incorporated into aspects of David Rossi anyway. So I think for me, it was just like, "Great, I get another chance to revisit this guy and that world and these people and that occupation." And I’ve always liked it, I’ve always enjoyed it, and there was never any time that I thought to myself, “I really would like to stop doing this.” It could’ve gone on, you know. We wrapped two and a half years ago.

So, I think that’s what I like about it, we don’t have to cut any corners in the sense that we can actually tell these stories in as realistic a way as possible. There are dark aspects to it for the characters we play, as they are for the victims that are often portrayed on the show. That’s interesting for me to be able to tap into those aspects of my character.
