It’s possible to like the English while being mad at the British. If nothing else, the crazy mess that we call Brexit has taught us that.
They are cloudy at best on Northern Ireland – they know it’s a mythical land full of mad history and people who are always fighting each other, a bit like Game of Thrones. In fact, exactly like Game of Thrones. It’s the tragedy of it all. This mad determination to return to the past, when Winston Churchill was singlehandedly winning the Battle of Agincourt in a Spitfire, is having real-world consequences.
There’ll be jibes about people renting limos and bouncy castles – or kitting the kids out in designer dresses or suits.If a mum is spending a bit extra on the perfect communion dress for their daughter, you can be sure she’s been putting a bit of money away for a year or more.
