Joe O'Shea: Forget Brexit and the general election, 2020 could be the year we argue about the Black and Tans
It's strange to think that in a year that should be dominated by Brexit and a general election - we could mostly be arguing about the Black and Tans and the Royal Irish Constabulary.
And it’s a reminder that in Ireland, you’re never too far away from the past. Or as James Joyce put it; “History is a nightmare from which I am trying to awake.” And in the main, that’s a good thing - especially when you look at what bigotry, ignorance and nationalism has unleashed in the UK, the US and elsewhere around the world.
