Joe Redmond spent five years at Birmingham City before returning home to Ireland, where he is set to captain St Patrick's Athletic in this Sunday's FAI Cup final.
Joe Redmond has a good eye for potential - having played alongside Jude Bellingham for four years at Birmingham City .
“I was 15 and he was 12,” recalled the Dubliner, ahead of Sunday’s FAI Cup showdown against Bohemians. “In Ireland, you play a year up from your own age-group but he was four years ahead and you’re thinking, how far can he go? Birmingham were so excited about Bellingham that their retired his number when he left the club for DortmundSt Pat’s are unlikely to retire Melia’s number when he eventually leaves, but the excitement over his potential is giving Redmond a bit of deja vu.
“I was only speaking about him earlier to the lads and I was like, the last two or three months you’ve seen such a maturity in the way he is starting to train and play,” said Redmond.
