Joe Schmidt has led the Wallabies through a challenging but encouraging year, despite being underdogs in their upcoming final match. Schmidt's focus has been on solidifying the team's foundation and improving their play.
2024 has been a busy year for Joe Schmidt with the Wallabies and it will conclude this Saturday in the Aviva Stadium . Schmidt has had some great days in the Lansdowne Road venue, with his hope being that it can be the scene for a spectacular finale to his first season with the Australians. The Wallabies are currently 16-point underdogs, but have shown encouraging signs in their 12 games under Schmidt since he took over from Eddie Jones after the 2023 World Cup disaster.
Schmidt's initial focus was on making the Wallabies solid, cutting out individual errors, and focusing on discipline and smarter rugby. He brought in an experienced coaching team to complement his strengths on the attacking side of the game. The first three fixtures under Schmidt were successful, with three consecutive wins against a weak Wales team and Georgia. The Rugby Championship brought some tough days, but Schmidt's men were competitive, winning once and putting up strong performances against Argentina and New Zealand
