John O’Shea has been appointed interim manager of the Republic of Ireland football team and will take charge against Belgium and Switzerland.
The former Manchester United defender will take charge of the upcoming friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland.
It comes as the FAI continues to hunt for a new manager over three months after Stephen Kenny’s contract was terminated.O’Shea played for Ireland 118 times and served as assistant manager to Kenny last year.A post shared by Ireland Football Speaking after the announcement, O’Shea said it will be an “incredible honour to lead the side into the March international window”.
“As everyone will know, I’ve always had immense pride representing my country, whether as a player or coach,” he said.The FAI says a permanent appointment will be made in early April.
