John T. ‘Til’ Hazel Jr. has died at 91. The lawyer and developer helped transform Northern Virginia into an economic powerhouse.

Four years later, Hazel/Peterson paid $11 million for 542 acres in Prince William County. The real estate partnership dissolved in 1991 as a second generation struck out on separate paths. Mr. Hazel returned to practicing law, and he and Peterson remained friends.
