The actor, who has starred in Fair City and Love/Hate, felt extremely nervous when proposing to now wife Brenda on Christmas Day but is thrilled with how everything worked out

The Fair City actor proposed to his partner on Christmas Day in 2021 after less than a year of dating. They tied the knot in a gorgeous summer wedding back in July and Johnny couldn’t be happier at how everything worked out.

I was like, ‘How am I gonna do what?’,” he added to the Tis Yourself podcast. After speaking to his mam, Johnny felt proposing to Brenda was the right thing to do but he still felt extremely nervous to pop the question and he started creating scenarios in his head. He said: “We spent Christmas 2021 together and it just seemed like this isn’t the right thing to do — her dad hates me, she’s gonna say no, I’m going to ruin their whole Christmas, the audacity of this Dublin lad to walk in to Kilcullen on our first Christmas together to get down on one knee!” “I’ll never forget it as long as I live just eating Christmas dinner and going outside and pretty much puking my ring up. It was just so nerve-wracking,” he added with a laugh.Johnny believes the best thing about being married is always having someone to pick you up at the end of a bad day.“I never thought I’d say this, but if you’re having a bad day or you’re looking at your bank account and you’re like, ‘Oh Jesus the finances’, and as an actor it can be very lonely when you just wait around the phone for the agent to call, it’s nice there’s someone there for you, please God, for life.”“We’re both very different people,” the former Dancing with the Stars finalist added. “Brenda runs a hair salon. And whether I’m dressed up in tights, shooting someone or kidnapping someone, what we do is very different!“Don’t get me wrong, we kill each other as well,” he jokingly added.Get the latest RSVP headlines straight to your inbox for free by signing up to our newsletter Join our new WhatsApp community!
