Pentathlon crown for Liverpudlian as Flying Scot Muir follows up with scorching 3,000m triumph
History repeated itself as Katarina Johnson-Thompson was crowned pentathlon queen of Europe - but fell agonisingly short of the world record.
But she faltered in the long jump and that was to prove critical a couple of hours later when despite running her heart out for an 800m time of 2:09.13 - she finished 30 points off Dobrynska’s 5013 mark. The 26-year-old has matured as an athlete and a person from the days when pressure stalked her on the start line and this time was happy to enjoy her golden moment.
“All I need to do is focus on each event and stay in the moment, and it comes. I don’t have to put enormous pressure on myself.
