CLEVELAND, Ohio – Pro Football Focus’ passer grading isn’t the only way to measure a quarterback, but back in 2018, when it came to rookie quarterbacks, it was probably the measurement preferred by the Browns.
There was Baker Mayfield, the first overall pick, ranked 12th among all NFL quarterbacks in passer grade following the 2018 regular season. The rest of the first rounders were way down the list. Sam Darnold ranked 30th , Lamar Jackson 31st , Josh Allen 32nd and Josh Rosen 36th among quarterbacks with at least 200 dropbacks.
Things have changed since then, obviously. Mayfield and Darnold are both looking for a second chance in Carolina. Jackson has an MVP award, Allen is an MVP candidate.signing the former 10th pick on FridayPrior to joining the Browns, Rosen played for three teams over four years, and was a member of five teams over that span. After a stop on defense, Rosen got the ball back with a chance to put together a game-winning drive. He got to the Seahawks 27 with 1:55 to play, but Phil Dawson missed a 45-yard field goal attempt. The Seahawks then hit a game-winning field goal with four seconds left. It was the high point for Rosen. That it was his very first start helps explain why he’s on his sixth team in five years.
