Amanda Cassidy, a renowned journalist and author, shares insights into her life, family, writing process, and the inspiration behind her latest novel.
Amanda Cassidy, a journalist and author of three novels, most recently, The Perfect Place, discusses family, home, writing, and more. Her home is a cozy cottage in Dublin adorned with roses. It's a lively space filled with two dogs, three children, and two working parents. The cottage's location, tucked away on a lane, provides a sense of peace despite the bustling family life. Cassidy hails from a large family of five siblings, raised above her father's pub in Maynooth, Kildare.
Her childhood was filled with the sounds of conversations and captivating stories from the local men. Despite moving to Dublin after her First Communion, Cassidy considers her time in Maynooth formative. She fondly remembers exploring the grounds of Maynooth University. Cassidy's journey to becoming a writer was unconventional. Though shy as a child, she found joy in reading her essays aloud. Her passion for storytelling led her to internships at Sky News Ireland and Newstalk radio station, where she honed her skills in crafting compelling narratives. After having children, she shifted to writing journalism during the day. The pandemic inspired her to finally write her novel. Cassidy writes in a converted shed in her garden, surrounded by the sounds of her canine companions and the peaceful view of a birch tree
