A Harris County judge has signed an order allowing developer Kendall Miller and his family to proceed with a 33-story condominium high rise on their Tanglewood property.

Kendall Miller is the grandson of William Farrington, the developer who launched Tanglewood. Miller and his siblings and the family's business, Tanglewood Corp., are developing a new luxury high-rise condo building, 1661 Tanglewood, on the site of the family's longtime offices.

Miller's grandfather, William Farrington, developed Tanglewood back in the late 1940s and early 1950s and established office space at 1661 Tanglewood, where he and family members who followed operated their development and property management business. When Miller and his siblings, through their WMJK Ltd. business, first sought to demolish the one-story office building and replace it with a high rise in 2019, the community's Tanglewood Homes Association challenged them in court.

His clients have argued that while the 1661 site was originally zoned to allow commercial use, the neighborhood approved amendments dating back to 1997 and believed that only a single residence — not a condo tower with multiple residences — was allowed., attorney for Miller and WMJK, said that they have always believed they would win the case and next will pursue getting compensation for as much as $2.5 million in legal fees that they have incurred over the last three and a half years.

"In every piece of litigation, there’s a winner and a loser. It’s important that the winners are gracious and the losers recognize reality. Let’s everybody move on," Hardin said. WMJK’s original plan was for a project by Houston-based Hines and Tucson-based Watermark Retirement Communities for a 20-story tower with 230 apartments for people age 62 and older. That deal fell through, and Miller and his siblings decided to plan their own condo building, taller but only with 59 residences, and with underground parking. They believed their new plan would bring in less staff and fewer resident cars.website since late September with prices listed as “upon request.
