The criminal case was filed in September 2016, and included four counts of sexual abuse of a child, each a second-degree felony. The charges alleged the man sexually abused the woman between May 1999 and January 2000, when she was a girl under the age of 14. The woman then asked the appellate judges to reseal her records and they did, requiring the defense attorney to file a new brief that didn’t refer to information that had been confidential.
The Court of Appeals had instead agreed to allow the woman to file what’s known as a “friend of the court” brief.
