In July, average petrol prices rose slightly by 1 cent to €1.80 per litre, while diesel prices are up by almost 3 cents to €1.74 per litre. Crude oil prices continue to remain around $83 per barrel. Electric vehicle owners can expect some savings paying an average of €877 per year to cover the national average of 17,000 km per year which is a decrease of €69 per year month on month.

Jennifer Kilduff, Head of Marketing & PR for the AA , said, “We saw a slight increase in petrol and diesel prices this month, which is not ideal for the motorist no matter how slight the increase. There is some good news this month however for Electric vehicle owners, they should see a reduction in their fuelling costs. This is largely due to the recent decrease in ESB charging rates as well as competitive 24-hour rates from energy provider YUNO Energy.

The second planned reinstatement of excise duty on August 1st will see an extra 4 cents being added to the petrol price while diesel will go up by an additional 3 cents per litre. Kilduff also highlighted, “The clock is ticking for the government to decide on whether or not the increase in excise duty will come into effect or not.”

AA customers can save 3c per litre on petrol and diesel and 6c per litre on milesPlus fuel at participating Circle K garages using the AA Ireland App. Reducing speed, maintaining and servicing your vehicle according to the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines can help improve overall safety, performance and fuel efficiency.
